Hebdomas Baladin 'Jumping Letters'

€4,900.00

Time, Reimagined by Vincent Calabrese

What happens when one of independent watchmaking’s most unconventional minds decides to challenge the very way we read time?

The answer is the Baladin, an extraordinary creation by Vincent Calabrese, developed in collaboration with the Italian fashion house Pinko and associated with Swiss watchmaking expertise from Hebdomas / Baladin.

Introduced around 1990, the Hebdomas - Baladin is a fascinating expression of mechanical ingenuity and avant-garde design, built around a patented jumping-hour display that abandons conventional hands in favour of a completely different way of experiencing time.

Its glossy black dial features a rotating 360-degree aperture displaying the minutes, while the hours appear digitally in a jumping indication. But Calabrese adds a playful and enigmatic twist: every three hours, a letter replaces the numeral.

T, S, N and M transform timekeeping into a visual code, turning an everyday function into a mechanical puzzle.

Housed in a 39 mm vermeil case, crafted from solid 925 silver with yellow-gold plating, the Baladin combines unconventional proportions, precious materials and an unmistakable design language.

A pioneer of independent watchmaking, Vincent Calabrese is also one of the founding figures behind the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI), established with fellow independent watchmaker Svend Andersen to promote creativity beyond the boundaries of traditional watchmaking.

The Baladin was presented at the 1990 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, where it received a silver medal.

More than a watch, it is a reminder that horology is not only about measuring time, but also about rethinking it. Only @avocadovintagewatches
