1950s Omega Stern Dials : Geometry and Mirror Indexes

I often get asked by collectors and watch enthusiasts about these dials: “Are they original?”

Yes — they are absolutely original.

These are 1950s dials produced by Stern, which you can clearly see from the markings on the back: the star logo and the correct production codes.

Stern Frères Créations is one of the most famous and respected dial manufacturers in the history of watchmaking. Founded in 1898 in Geneva by Henri Stern, the company produced high-quality dials for some of the most prestigious watch brands, including Patek Philippe, Rolex, Longines, Audemars Piguet.

What sometimes creates confusion is the absence of the “Swiss Made” omarking at the bottom of the dial. But that’s completely correct — some of these dials were originally produced exactly this way.

They are very high-quality dials, typically featuring mirror-polished indexes that catch and reflect the light beautifully, giving the dial a very distinctive appearance.

Most likely these were produced in relatively small batches, which explains why they are quite rare today. They were mainly made for the Series 30T2/265 caliber.

They’re not what you would call “canonical” or standard dials, but that’s precisely what makes them so interesting. The shapes, the geometry, and the way the light plays across the indexes really make them stand out.
